What's this all about First Try?
I see 3000 but what would that be on my door step in terms of price.
If this bolts into a Ford I would SERIOUSLY look into it sounds vey interesting. I would like to find another 50's or earlier half ton then put this in.
But what advancements is there all in this motor versus a Ford genune Flathead?
For what I know about the french blocks are they are pretty much identical to ones over here. The do however use some metric bolts and use shorter valves but have taller adjustable lifters.
Here's some pictures of them: http://www.reds-headers.com/html/ffh.html
It appears they use the integrated bellhousing which means you may run into trouble with some transmissions, not to mention requiring the special wrenches to work on the clutch.
i don't know a lot about flatheads, but from qall i've read and been told, these French flatheads are a bit beefier in some of the weak spots of the original ford flatheads. they are practically new, not 70+ years old and who knows whats been done to them,
the other thing is i thought they were easier to poll some bigger power out of them and remain reliable.
oh and yes, the reds page states that they use the earlier bellhousing. but im sure there are still ways around this for the right $$$.
no matter what, i would think one of the biggest benefits is that it is a new-ish(not run) engine, there have been guys around here that want $1000 for a flathead BLOCK and they only say that it is good, no guarentee. it says no warranty with these, but at least you've got a fairly good idea
It seems to Halibrand`s ONLY guarantee is that flat head engines and parts are free from MOST COSMETIC & RUST DEFECTS!!!!!
I would have to read and reread their fine print before buying, so far I don`t see any other guarantee of any kind to protect the $3/4,000 purchase price.
They also recommend purchaser do a partial disassembly to asure that the engine contains no contamination?????
Sounds like a Swiss cheese guarantee to me.
But then the pointof running a Flathead is that you have a genuine 1949 or whatever piece of iron still turning. Even though cool I guess I'd just spend 2-3 grand andd get one goin.
