Yes! Sounds just like what I would buy - you going to be able to make Stoddard Wells with it?

Stoddard Wells is an off-road 4wd park just south of Barstow. Several of us and the Southern Cal guys, maybe even the wimps from Las Vegas, will spend a weekend there the end of February - we are calling it a Western Region Meeting.

There are a couple of active threads on it. Most of us will be camping out and enjoying the desert.

Sounds like a good deal for a 1990 4x4. My next Ford truck will have the 300 inline six in it. (Hopefully, never know what circumstances will bring)

There is wheeling, and then there is wheeling. You don't have to go nuts and try every hill and rock pile - I don't.

I will have my jeep there, and I don't want to hurt it as it pulls my camp trailer. Mostly I go everywhere in 2wd, and, if I need 4wd, use it only to get free and start back. I have never broke anything, or damaged a tire. I did get stuck once, and had to borrow a tractor to get out.

But I agree, it is too nice a looking rig to beat it up.

I look forward to hooking up with ***** down there
I wouldn`t miss it for the world as it is my fav place to ride in the high desert. It`s just a lot of wide open desert with hills ,rocks dirt. In the creekbeds there is soft sand as well as patchs.Hope you can be meeting us down there as well Cowboy

All engine want the same thing...more air...once they get it, they have to have fuel to keep happy.

Good exhaust is always on the top of the list of L6's, intakes for them might be limited, but you'd have to look around.

Keep it all simple to start with, you've some miles on the girl, and you need to keep CARB parts in mind...although the last two rller dynos I was on, all they did was LOOK at the engine bay, without any functional testing...but be aware anyway.

An 89 will have fuel injection and there is just not a lot you can do with it. It is about as good as it ever got. There is an inline six forum with a lot of experts on it, and they may know some trick you can try - but be careful as most of those experts do not need to pass a smog check.

Also, please remember that you have an truck/industrial motor with a lot of rotating mass. It will never perform like a V8 - you make your power at low RPM, they are high RPM engines.

Most of the time the 300's out torque a V8. Unless you got a stroker 351 or bigger, but then you wont be getting 15mpg's doing it. Grunt pullin power is what makes them work so well in a pickup. Torque wins races, hp sells cars. RPM doesnt guarantee you to win a race either. If that's the case, I'd put a model airplane engine in my truck that spins 30k rpm's.
