remove fuel solenoid , make new gasket to cover entire opening , better yet rebuild carb , tighten all screws on the bottom of it , should make big improvement doing these things
ok, I know the carb is junk. 81 has a comp?!? We disconnected most vacuum already. Would like a no-feedback carb. And if SC ever had emmisions testing, bicycle sales would go thru the roof!
Yes some California Equipped 300-I6s had diagnostic computers in 1981.

Some high altitude models in this timeframe also had feedback carbs and computers for better drivability in high altitudes. Adjust on the fly fuel/air ratios etc... Dont know much about those systems however. Just remember seeing and reading it somewhere.
