I'd go full 3" with an X.

I've heard there will be noticeably more interior noise with 3 vs.2.5". Since I've no experience with a 460 with 3" in a Panel truck, I'm completely in the blind. I don't want it to be stealthy, however I will want to play stereo on the highway.....

I think the sound is more determined by the type of mufflers that you choose. An X pipe will also decrease the noise level. If you go with 3", an X pipe and then a pair of Flowmaster 70 series big block Delta Flows, the noise level will be fine. Here is a chart also to help determine size. Your setup needs full 3" to make your proper power.

Here's a link to the exact mufflers I personally would use. The sound great on a BBF.

Flowmaster 70 series

Here's what I came up with on your combo Brad. IMHO, I think you should run the Performer RPM or Stealth intake. The regular Performer is NOT big enough for your engine. Also, I think you are seriously under-cammed. Keep in mind that the VAST majority of people over-cam their engine. I ran that exact cam in my last build on a 460. With that long stroke on your engine, that cam will seem like it belongs in a lawn mower. You need something at least in the 235/245 I/E range with .550 or so lift. Look at this graph, you are running out of cam by 5000 RPM's. You might as well spin it to 6000. You have the components otherwise and you won't be missing the low end with that stroker anyway. So, just my $0.02. Hope this helps.

Here is that same combo with the Comp cams listed here:
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Se...umber=34-771-9

Now it IS a roller cam, but with that combo, it's screaming for a big cam. I know it's quite a bit more expensive than a hydraulic setup, but just look at this difference. That's about 75 ft. lbs. of torque across the board and almost 100 more hp at the peak. Heck it's still could take more cam, it's nosing over at about 5600 even with that cam.

Hey Big, I was reviewing my posts and you were close with your guess of 106 on my cam's intake centerline...it is 107. I just took a second to look at the pics of your Black truck you changed the color on....nice! Rust would have been a better color than the original....Thanks again for all the info..you guys on here are in a league of your own...too bad the parts guys don't have all this knowledge.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, most of the guys that work at Autozone, Oreily's, Pep Boys, etc, are all morons. There are some that really know their stuff. If you find one, remember that place and never go anywhere else.

Let us all know how much power your truck ends up making.

Will do, Will probably only do the chassis dyno....The power to the wheels is what matters. Anyone have an idea of the power loss through the tranny, and rearend?
I'm using a C6 and a 9"....heard they love to eat power.

It's very general but I use 25% loss whenever I do any figuring. Like I said it's pretty general but that will almost always put you into the ballpark.

Thanks for all the great info. The cam seems a bit small for sure. I was wondering if that larger size of cam would work well for putting through the bush at low idle. As this truck is my hunting truck and we go slow quite a bit, but I need to tow heavy loads too and really that is what I need the most. Is there a Hydralic cam that could maybe split the difference? Any ideas? I really apprieciate all the great help you have been. Thanks again!
