Q) Define irony?

A) A Ford apologist making fun of another manufacturers' recalls.

http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums...showtopic=9540

"Ford, which led the industry with 6 million recalls in 2005, saw recalls drop to 1.7 million in 2006. GM saw similar results, recalling 1.6 million cars and trucks, down from 5 million the year before.

Toyota, which has faced nagging questions about its quality after 2.2 million recalls in 2005, saw improvement in 2006, with 766,000 vehicles recalled
"

Even with Toy's "***** in the armor" they still had aprox. 1/3 the recalls of our beloved Blue Oval.

(and I don't think Ford sold 3X's the cars)

I like Fords better too, and own 4 Fords, two cars, and two trucks. Yes, this is a Ford site, the perfect spot to bash the competition.

But what DOHC said about recalls: Ford vs Toyota is not bashing, but typing facts.

Nope, no memo........Like ND said, isn't this the Ford vs Comp. threads???

Besides, if you like Ford mo' better; then why do own a Honda????

What's kinda funny is I also like Ford better............just not so near sighted to knock another brand about recalls when Ford is the all time leader in that category.

Sorta like making fun of someone's double wide when you live in a single wide.

DOHC...I've read many of your posts since I've been coming to this site...I know how you think, and I know you don't try to start anything. You're very logical, and respected by me, and many others among the FTE crowd.
The point of this thread was missed by you though. He was simply stating that Toyota isn't invincible to recalls, or quality issues. It's been said before...but lately we seem to have a lot of Toyota "apologizers" on this side of the site which undermines the purpose of this very forum IMO. I've noticed that in the past few months...it seems a number of people that frequent this forum believe that Toyota can do no wrong, and that since Toyota's popularity is gaining them sales, Ford is now inferior in every way possible. This logic is bull. I'm not saying that you believe this...but the original poster was trying to combat that very opinion IMO.

I will sum all of this up in one word "opinions". It sounds like you might be taking it to heart "IMO".

The whole point to this part of FTE is Ford vs The Competition not Ford is better than the Competion. ( which it is but I don't go around waving the flag as much as some people in here )

My question is what does a person have to state here to become a "Toyota apologizer" as you put it. In the majority of cases it comes down to logical sense, some people seem to think that Ford is the "be all, end all" of vehicles when infact it's not. They excel in certain areas but by all means are not perfect. It's "ford fanboys" ( and I use that term loosly because I'm one to a certain extent ) that chime in with pointless propaganda and assumtions that are just stupid, that could be the reason why Toyota is gaining sales although I'm confused by that comment that Toyota is gaining sales because of few "realists" on this site.

Once again just my opinion, take it for a grain of salt or whatever.....

I 100% appreciate and understand your reply...........but I've already commented on this in the past.

To me, it is very much the chicken or the egg situation. Which came first; the xenophobic Toy/Nissan etc. bashers? Or do you think there were people coming on here just knocking Ford for a fishing expedition? (pardon the pun)

I've always believed it to be the former. That is non-sensical Japan bashing just because it's easy to do in a mob type setting.

I like Ford.........jeez, I CURRENTLY own 6 of them, have owned maybe 30(?) in my lifetime.

But I'm the type of person that can handle the truth....when I coached my son's baseball teams for years and there was a better player for a situation, my son sat.

When I go out on a call, and a medic with more experience questions my medicine, I'll defer.

When my wife left 35" Desert Dueler imprints on the side of a Honda, I paid the guy.............the guy actually cried thinking we were gonna string him along. I stated it was our fault, I'll handle it.

Some people here think just because it's a Ford, it's the best....just because.

These are the same type of people who probably watch their kid bite someone's hand and then tell the victim to get his hand out of their kid's mouth!!!

I hope Ford gets back on track, I hope Ford quits cutting U.S. jobs but most of all I wish people would see past their own bias and prejudices and maybe see what's working for other companies.....kinda like Ford's new CEO is.

I just have a hard time grasping the fact that while it may be newsworthy that Toy's have run in to some issues, they still have nearly 3X's less recalls than Ford.

It's just my opinion you don't bring up something to knock something/somebody when that something is your weak point.

Kinda like being a Cubs fan and knocking the Yankees because they haven't won the Series in a few years.

Thanks for your very thoughtful and honest post......

I didn't state that they're gaining sales do to so called "realists" on this site. I know, hell, it's blaringly obvious that Toyota has been very popular for many years now. I'm not denying that they make a good product, and I'm not saying Ford is industructable either.
My problem is people that come on here and state that "Ford has a lot of catching up to do"..."Ford doesn't make quailty vehicles", or my favorite, "Toyota is better...plain and simple", without actually providing proof...then claim to be a "realist" all while blasting anyone that supports, or even suggests Ford makes a quality product. You don't believe me? Go look at the 5.7L Toyota engine thread, or any of the other top ten threads in this forum.

Thankyou for understanding me, your level headedness (that's a word) is one of the reasons I respect you. I agree with you on the "Ford is the best just because" syndrome. Any person that is inexperienced, or doesn't feel they need any reasons will follow this. Hell, I'll be the first to admit that I was like that at one point in time...I was 5 years old, and Dad's truck was the coolest thing ever. My whole family has been Ford. We're all not naive though. We've had experience that leads us to believe we're driving the best products on the market for our needs, and for what our taste requires.
I wanted to learn more about the thing I love so much, so I now understand and recognize why I love Ford as much as I do through experience with other manufacturers, and through heavy experience with my Fords.

Like I stated above to SMIGGS though...I don't understand the self proclaimed "realists" that have repeatedly blasted Ford without any hard proof. That's what my post is really about.

On that note...I looked at the recalls for 2006 for Ford through this page
http://www.automotive.com/new-cars/r...ord/index.html
...and it seems the recalls are minor, most of the vehicles won't see a side affect of not going in on warranty. I'm not trying to defend Ford on this subject...the recall count should be far less than what it is...minor or not. I'm just puting some perspective into it.
It doesn't look like those recalls add to 2.2 million though...are the rest 6.0L related...or is there a recall for any 6.0L in 2006?
Thankyou for listening.

I wasn't trying to flame you or anything and I couldn't agree with you more on your post. Believe me, I've been through all those threads and I guess what bothered me more was the blatent ingnorance people have for something that doesn't have a blue oval on it. I think Ford makes a top notch vehicle, if not I wouldn't have bought 4 of them. ( only own 2 as of now ).

In the long and short of it we are both the same, we have a problem with some of the ignorance that goes on.
