Alright, Im sure this is a stupid question but here goes...
After reading alot of auto forums, people are always talking about putting in a trans cooler for their ATX. THis has me baffled... Don't all ATX's come from the factory with a cooler? When people mention adding a cooler do they mean adding another, or replacing the stocker with a bigger one? Again, stupid question Im sure... I just need some clarification.
Yes, the factory cools the transmission fluid by routing it through coils in a tank in the radiator. Sometimes this is not enough (like if you tow heavy loads) to keep the fluid cool and an aftermarket cooler is used. It generally is placed in front of the radiator and looks like a miniature radiator. Here is what one looks like: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_758370_-1
Sometimes the aftermarket cooler is used in series with the stock radiator cooler and other times the stock unit is bypassed.
