Perhaps you're thinking T-5? Mustang tranny, heavy duty, quite reliable. Not too difficult to mount to the 4.0L with an adaptor.

No, I don't think it was the T-5. I could have sworn it was ZF. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I doubt I would be needing to mount anything to the 4.0 other than what it is already bolted to

Jim, as I recall ZF did build the transaxle used in the Pantera but it's a little different critter from the ZF trannies as used in Ford trucks...

Dan,
I am sure it was. For one thing it would be geared differently. I just assumed they were the same. Shows you what I know (or don't know) about Fords.
