1953 f-100 (real or fake)
I am about to purchase a rebuildable 1953 f-100. It has the flathead V-8 with the Ford-o-Matic trans. My question is that I am told that 53 is the first year for auto in a truck and am wanting to know if this is true? In the steering wheel it says 50 year anniversary. Is this right? The truck is an almost daily driver. It runs excellent, shifts great, and is still 6-volt posi ground. Everything works it just needs very little body work. I am kinda in the dark since it was built way before my time so any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also can anyone tell me what its approximate value so I can see if Im getting ripped. Thanks for your help!!

Yes, that was the first year for the auto trans in a pickup, and last year for a flathead. 1953 was the golden anniversary for Ford. (50th) That's why it has the special horn button. If the button is in good condition, it's valulable. If it is in as good shape as you describe, and price is ok, buy it. Sounds like a good truck. Send me the vin codes of the door and I can try to decode it for you. Write it all down, serial#, axle, date,trans,etc... from the door tag.
