One is a 40+ year old 1/2 scale Model T car that runs off of a 3 hp Briggs and Stratton Engine and the other is a 1979 BMW R65 motorcycle. The Model T was a basket case. Would probably have been cheaper and faster to just buy a new engine for it but at this point I've allowed it to become personal and can't/won't walk away from the challenge of making the original engine work.
The Beemer was project that my father got way into 15 years ago and never could find time to finish. He's 70 years old now and felt he would never get back to it so he offred it to me. I've managed to get it to run and actully ridden it some but it needs some attention. I think I now have all of the parts I need but I want to iron out all of the issues with the Model T before I tear into the BMW project.
If anyone thinks flatheads are expensive, here are two engines that have them beat! Carl, I bet a new 3 HP B&S costs as much as a mag'd and machined flatty. (Of course, it is also a flatty! ) BMW motorcycle parts are apparently made out of Unobtainium based on their prices!
Actually the new B&S engine is relatively cheap. It's the parts for the old one that are expensive and hard to find. As far as the Beemer goes - what can I say. I must like to be abused at the parts counter.
