I didn't want to double up on a Tuner question after posting on the Chip/Tuner thread, but I was wondering if there was a Tuner that worked better for the V10s. Since I have 2 Fords with V10s it would make sense for me to use the same type for both. My F250 has 285s for tires and I just found out Im running 5MPH faster than the Speedo shows, and I believe that Tuners can make up for the change. I've never used Chips or Tuners before. I dont care about HP as much as MPG if that even possible. Sorry to double up on the question, but thought some that might only cruise the V10 forum might have had experience with this. Thanks, Jeff
I dont have one but do a search and you will find all sorts of responses, as far a fixing your speedo being of 5mph I dont think the tuners will fix that, but you could take it down to your Ford dealer and they can fix it up to 35" inch tires, It cost me 100.00 bucks and it pretty dead on.
the v10 is so far different then the v8 to tune and the only way i was able to tune mine was on the dyno and with a sct excalabrater 2 being custom tuned.
as to your tire caused speedo problem a easy trip to the dealer can correct that problem and save you some cash over buying 2 tuners as they now vin lock to the vin number programed into the pcm. and can not be used on another car or truck with out being unlocked.
Cap, it looks like he has a 2003 - it's not a 3-valver, so it's possible to get SOME extra power without major effort.
As far as MPG's are concerned, don't bother. The SD with a V8 with two less cylinders gets almost the exact same MPGs in similar vehicles as the V10. Whatever timing and air/fuel mix changes could be done, they would certainly not yield more MPGs if losing two whole cylinders worth of friction and parasitic power loss doesn't effect it much.
In my own case, in my '96 t-bird 4.6L, a Superchips WAS worth 1MPG or so. But that car is more aerodynamic than a Mustang of the same year, the SD is a much different animal in all respects.
when mine was well tuned my mpg's dropped to 8 so it went right back to stock.
again art your correct about the mpg's of the 5.4 and 6.8. my son in law is now driveing a 05 sd with a 5.4. 9 is his best so far with out any tuner pluged in to reflash it. with 10.3 on the highway . both are unloaded as it's not drag race time here yet and no need to tow the super pro camaro.
I dont know about everyone elses case but im gettng 12 MPG out of my 02 v-10. I do have a Diablo tuner set to performance ran thru mine. I have to buy he higher priced gas but i enjoy the power and the way it runs!! The truck also has a 3 inch lift with 35's on it and is a crew cab!!
Just my two cents!!
