2003 Super Duty V10

I currently has 72K miles on it. Only issues were left side upper and lower ball joints (big surprise). Other than that....the best truck I have ever owned.

I'm satisfied with my 78 F100 and my friend has a 76 and a 79 F150 that are both awesome reliable trucks. After working at Ford for 2 years and GM for 1 year as a service advisor at both I don't think I could ever buy a Ford truck mid 80's or newer. Sure they all have problems and it's more dependant on maintenance than anything else, but it seemed to me like the Ford's had more expensive problems. Front ends that wear out way too fast on 1/2 tons, lots of bad rear differentials in 1/2 tons, intake gaskets on 4.2's sometimes causing engine failure, defective cylinder heads on 4.6's and 5.4's causing spark plugs spitting out, constantly failing ignition coils on some trucks. The list goes on. Sure everyone has different experiences but after spending lots of time in both dealerships and checking the repair history on every vehicle I had time to, I saw a lot of trends. Sure there are lots of happy owners out there, but for the possibility of expensive repairs, I would rather not spend the $$ on a newer truck. Most of the 70's trucks can be more reliable and cost less to upkeep if they're cared for properly. That goes for Ford or GM.

My First F series was a 94 f250 sc 7.3 turbo, bought it with 40,000 miles, put another 70,000 on it with out one problem. next was a 99 f350 drw sc 7.3, bought new. I used to haul cars all over the country. The only problem I had with it was the 6spd keeping a clutch. I averaged about 17000 miles per clutch. It was better than my buddies Dodge that ate the whole tranny just as frequently. Needless to say we abused our pickups (license for 42000lbs). Sold that one at 150000 miles. Talked to the local dealer the other day the guy I sold it to now has over 400,000 on it (it was in getting a clutch).
My current pickup is a 02 f350 srw cc 7.3 lariat, I bought it new and just turned over 140000. It runs so good I have decided to keep it for the long haul. Only problems have been minor, alternator and cam sensor. oh yeah all of em are 4x4 (i live in Montana)

im satisfied with my 3.

82 f100, purcashed at age 16 put 95,000 miles on it 5 years. beat the ever living crap out of it daily, the 300 was ran low on oil countless times, the lifters would start ticking and i'd dump 3 quarts in it. truck died at just over 230,000 miles, has orginal c4 tranny and 9 inch rear, both probably still contain the factory fluids. the 300 just kept running and running, it spun a rod bearing but she got me home. that truck was jumped over the railroad tracks, run through fields and ditchs, it was plowed over countless garbage cans and mail boxes, the tailgate and rear fenders are full of bullet holes, and there isnt a body panel that hasnt been dented.

i put that truck through hell, after everything its been through yank the choke out pump the gas twice and she fires up, if you listen past the rod knock she kindof purrs like a kittie.

my 96 f150 only has 79,000 miles on, its a very nice truck and i plan on keeping it that way. no storys about how tuff this truck is, under the bed rug the bed has not a scratch on the factory paint. this truck is used more as a glorified big car i dont haul anything heavier then a few grocery bags in it. this truck spends 28 days of the month sitting in the gradge and has never been driven in snow. hopefully since its pamperd it'll last a while.

my 86 f150 is my new beater, it had 155,000 miles when i bought it and never had a tune up. after a tune up and a little carb tinkling the HO 351 runs like a raped ape. it starts right up, coldest day here has been -17 started up no problem. i love this truck, no ac, no cruise, no efi, its simplicity at its best. so far its only real claim to fame was hauling 1400 pounds of cast to the scrap yard.

I had a 98 F150 reg. cab long bed 4x4 with the 4.6L and auto. Bought it new, put about 86,000 miles on it, changed the spark plugs, brakes, and oil. Didn't have any problems with it. I traded it in on a 2002 F150 ext. cab short bed 4x4 with the 5.4L auto. Bought the truck in the fall of 2003 with 64,000 miles on it. It has 106,000 on it now, and I replaced the brakes and throttle position sensor, and the oil, of course. Yeah, I think I'm pretty satisfied with my trucks.

My favorite truck yet. Love the 7.3 engine. I'm skeptical of the 6.0, but who knows where my mind will be in the next year or so.

Just going off the top of my head among my own and my brothers Ford trucks:

79-F350 500K+ Replaced the 400 with a 429 at some point and had to replace the four speed tranny as well, but I don't recall the miles for those. There were the usual things in getting to more than 500K, such as replacing the heater core, and the radiator, ball joint's....stearing rods ...ect... Oh, I broke one of the rear axle rods in two once, pulling a loaded gooseneck live stock trailer at 16,000 lb's.

91 F350 non turbo diesel 4x4. 350K when sold, nothing but routine maintence.

94 F250 ATS turbo diesel 4x4, rebuilt the IFS twice in 200k, but other wise no power train problems.

94 F150 W/302-5 speed manual. 180K when sold and no problems.

94 F150 With 351/auto. Had to replace both in-tank fuel pumps and the fuel pressure regulator at 150K.

96 F150 with 302/manual tranny 4x4. Replaced clutch at 140K, otherwise no problems till traded for a car.

02 Expedition 4x4. Traded for new one at 100k, no problems.

04 Expedition. Replaced rear end (by Ford for free) at 50K.

02 F150 Super Crew 4x4, traded at 98K, no problems.

01 F150 4x4, currently in the shop getting new auto tranny at 104K.

05 expedition 4x4, 40k, no problems yet.

03 expedition 4x4 120k, no problems yet.

06 F350 PSD, 4x4, 6 speed manual, no problems yet, and it gets worked hard.

Not too bad over the years, and beats the heck out of our chevy experiances over the years.

On edit: forgot the Lightnings!,

94 Lightning, wrecked at 75K, no problems up to that point.

94 Lightning, sucked a valve while racing, at 140k, New 351 is getting 380 HP at the wheels.

98 Ranger 4X4 4.0 - amazing truck. wish i had it back. traded it with 68k

98 Chevy malibu LS - ABSOLUTE PIECE OF JUNK. i replaced just about everything on it. traded my ranger on it even up at $11k and traded it a year later and got $2k for it. NEVER a chevy again! traded it with 102k

2001 Explorer Sport - awesome. crawled through just about everything. i miss this one too. traded it with 60k

2004 Mustang GT - My baby - sooo fast. Not even a hint of a problem with it. I actually hit a deer with it at 45mph. The deer went over the roof and down the back window. Didnt even scratch the paint. Phew. traded it with 30k

1995 F150 supercab 5.8 - This truck was a hoss. it saw a lot of road salt, so I replaced the rear shackles, perches, and leaf springs - pretty easy job to do myself. actually replaced it with f250 4 over 1 leafs instead of the stock 3 over 1's. engine still had FULL compression and it burned zero oil when i traded it with 180k!

2003 f150 supercab shortbed 5.4 - my current vehicle. 45k miles on it. i have read a lot about the 5.4 being a dog, but it definitely isnt on the shortbed. the power to weight ratio is way different than that of the 5.4 in a super duty. this thing really moves. ive only had her for a week, but she is running good so far.

1999 f350 superduty 7.3 dually - big truck, lots of power - only problem was that it blew the hose off of the turbo repeatedly when towing up mountains or through the desert. this was also towing a 40ft fifth wheel, so i dont blame it - i would have blown my hose too.

2005 f350 superduty 6.0 lariat - this is the king kong of the monkey truck world. i have no idea where i came up with that. way more power than the 7.3 - and no turbo problems. however, it does get a bit warm under continued loads. this is why ford is switchin to the twin turbo setup. amazing amazing truck.

Bottom line...I am a satisfied Ford owner.

1965 F100 bought it new...(traded it in for 68 F250, bought it back in 1981)..still have it. 1968 F250 Ranger traded for 1974 Super Cab traded for 1979 Lariat traded for 1987 F150 Lariat traded for 1992 Lariat.

Sold the 1992 in 2000, didn't need three trucks (had a used beater 1975 F250).

2004 new Lariat Screw...7,000 miles...now being driven by nephew.

Never had one Warranty claim on any Ford I bought new (cars: 79 T-Bird, 83 LTD).

Working for Ford and getting "free" service prolly helped. Being a detail freak hasn't hurt either.

95 F150 302 E4OD bought when I was 15. I've got over 155K on the odo and all that has been replaced on the truck were a starter, fuel pump, and radius arm bushings. I drive this truck like I stole it ever single day and it keeps asking for more. I've put a lot more money into it since, I cant stop tinkering with it. 302 with bolts ons + 4.56 gears on a shortbox reg cab = insane fun!

'83 F150 2WD, 98K miles. I have had it since new. Although the 300/6 was bullet proof, the rest of the truck is crap. Cheap, crappy interior, lousy suspension, and last but not least - a rust bucket rivaled only by an early 70's Chevy.

'93 F150SC 4X4, sold with 140K miles. Was one of the nicest looking Ford body styles, IMO. Still had a cheap, crappy interior. Was a little underpowered with the 302 being a 4X4, but hey, it was a 1/2 ton, right? Road nice, and was a decent truck all around.

'01 F250SC 4X4 PSD 145K miles. My current ride. Overkill for me, but hey, WTF. A decent truck with no major problems as of yet (insert 'knocking on wood' smilie here).
