Lowering a lift?

Im looking at a used f250 with a 6 inch lift and its a little too high for my taste. Would it be possible to lower it maybe 2 inches without having to take out the 6in lift all together and replace it with a 4in.? I believe its a rancho lift.

Well.... considering that the back is probably using blocks to attain that heighth, sure you could replace those easy enough with smaller blocks... but the front is likely an all new spring pack and you can't really do much with those. I suppose you could subtract-a-leaf? Never tried it before... but I guess it might work. You'll have to re-align the front end as well.... it'd probably be easier to A) leave the lift on or B) buy a different truck

Not necissarily, if it is a 99+ truck, a lot of the front kits involve shackle drop brackets. What year truck is this?

That could be either leaves or drop brackets. Either way it pretty much means buying a 4" kit to install. The good thing would be that a lot of the 4" and 6" kits use similar components. Like dropped pitman arms, panhard bar brakets, etc. You would need to find the specific mfgr of the kit and check their stuff. you might be able to get away with just buying a new set of leaves or brackets.

Does rancho make a shackle kit?

you could buy smaller tires to lower it, or swap lifts with someone on this site

Mike,

I haven't found any shorter drop brackets than OEM, and lift kits in the 4-6" range generally utilize the OEM shackle with new, taller spring packs... so I didn't think that that would work to shorten the lift, maybe raise it by getting a longer shackle, but I dunno bout shortening it.

Its not shorter drop brakets I was referring to. I was refering to shackle brackets that are part of lift packages. All of them use the OEM shackle, but instead replace the mount on the frame with a longer mount that in effect, drops the springs lower thus creating lift while utilizing stock or close to stock springs. This prevents the "bouncin down the highway" syndrome that has previously been associated with lifted trucks. Explorer pro comp has 2" lift brackets for the springs, Tuff Country has 3" lift brackets, and Donahoe racing has 4.5" lift brackets. These brackets are used in conjunction with various spring packages to build custom combination lift.
