Having correctly diagnosed (thanks to this site) and fixed a failed CPS on my 2000 PSD (120,000 miles), I am getting static from my friends about the fact that I used a NAPA Autoparts replacement unit - they tell me these units are garbage and that I should throw it away and use a Ford or IH OEM part.
Does anyone here have any experience or opinions about this?
I have not personally but have read about many who have on this site. Even those of us with OEM units carry a factory spare. No telling how long that Napa unit will last. I believe most of the faulty units have been from CarQuest.
My experience with a cps that was not Ford was four days of down time. I went to Ford bought new cps and truck fired right up. I chalked it up as a learning experience. I would go on ebay buy one for 50.00 and keep one as a spare.
What about the blue one from Pure Diesel Power? Is that one worth the extra money they're charging for it ($107)? They say that it's a real improvement over the OEM in terms of stronger signal to PCM and better longevity.
some say it is some say its no better..some get better fuel milage and others dont..i do know jody will tell you to run black if you run his tunes..the blue is sapost to advance the timming..problem is this is what jody does too and if you go too far bad things happen...
Gotcha. I don't have a chip, but something has definitely been flashed into my truck because it doesn't even flinch when I run past 100mph, except the speedometer needle bounces back to zero until I slow back down under 100mph again. I probably better stay with the black one.
