'59 F100 - Pretty good cab/bed - blown motor, ? auto tranny, 52k - what's she worth?

Greetings - I normally am restoring military vehicles so this F100 is a bit of a departure (except that it appears to have come off of a military base)

From pics, cab & doors look tight, bed is pretty good, planking was covered by a piece of steel, stepside.

Engine - heads have been off for years - It goes straight in for a rebuild. I think the owner said it was a 293. Pardon my ignorance, Fords aren't a specialty (yet).

? Is there a way to determine that that engine matches the frame? While it should, I would like to be able to verify the #s if that is relevant to this type of vehicle.

Auto tranny - Condition unknown - will rebuild in any event.

52k on the speedo - in all likelyhood original miles. Should be able to verify. Doesn't really matter to me as long as the body and running gear looks good.

My intentions are to return it to "like new" via frame-off resto, with its original military markings.

How can I determine a value on this truck?

Hi there,
Sounds to me like you have the 292 y-block V8. The automatic tranny (if original) would have been a "Fordomatic" being that yours is an F-100 model. The Heavy duty "cruise-o-matic was used on the F-250 and up. There should be a rating plate riveted to the inside of your glove box door. If you e-mail me at klear@eclipse.net, or post the VIN and data info here, I can de-code it for you and it will tell you the original equipment that came with your truck. As for value, your best and most accurate bet would be to have it professionally appraised.

Kenny, this is johna. I just found out that my 59 F100 4x4, the one that needs the steering knuckle, may have had a jeep axle installed when it was ordered from the factory. If i get the VIN can you verify this? The truck has 5 lug axles.

John,
Send me the Vin # and the rest of the data from the rating plate (riveted to the inside of your glove box door) and I'll de-code it all. I never heard of Ford using a jeep axle, but it is possible that yours might be a Marmon-Herrington conversion.
