tones going off at random

tones going off at random
my friends f250 des. has an annoying tone that goes sometimes at start up and or at random,, it has 5 tones and 5 more tones but no lights,, anyone experience this or any idea what this is,, the computer shows not codes -- thanks

thank for the reply,,,more info,,'99 F250 7.3 des enigne,,, the tones that are heard are much softer and lower that any tone that is normally heard,,5 tones less that one second apart and then 5 more tones

Those dings are the air bag system alerting you that there is an issue. Here's some text copied from the Owners Manual (see particularly the part I put in bold):
"Determining if the system is operational
The SRS uses a readiness light in the instrument cluster or a tone to
indicate the condition of the system. Refer to Air bag readiness section
in the Instrument cluster chapter. Routine maintenance of the air bag is
not required.
A difficultywith the system is indicated byone or more of the following:
• The readiness light will either
flash or staylit.
• The readiness light will not
illuminate immediatelyafter
ignition is turned on.
• A series of five beeps will be heard. The tone pattern will repeat
periodicallyuntil the problem and/or light are repaired.
If anyof these things happen, even intermittently, have the SRS serviced
at your dealership or by a qualified technician immediately. Unless
serviced, the system may not function properly in the event of a
collision."
