I'm in the beginning stages of putting a 460/C6 in my 59 F100. I would love to hear from those who have made this swap as to fan to radiator clearance and firewall/engine clearance. Is your engine centered in the frame or offset to the passenger side?

Viking,
I put a 302/C6 into my 60 F100. I used TransDapt motor mounts but I wouldn't use them now that I know what they are. If you have a welder or access to one I would make my own. You can get just the rubber pieces from TD which is what I would do. As far as the installation, I centered my motor between the frame rails. For the front to back distance I just used what looked good, ie: what gave me the space I needed for the trany dip stick and the kick down rod. This left just 4" between the radiator and the water pump so I'm going to use electric fans. Also the motor set lower so the fan wouldn't have been centered on the radiator anyway.I'm also using a B&M tranny cooler because my truck was a standard. I also had to cut the front cross piece for clearance of the crank pulley. I have a few pictures of the engine in place. If you want send me your Email and I'll send them to you.

Thanks, and yes I'm building my own motor mount crossmember which is coming along nicely...Just trying to figure out the clearance problems for the firewall/engine/radiator.

Good luck on your swap. I'll be real interested to hear about your fan/radiator and engine/firewall clearance. Please keep us posted. As far as headers, I was thinking of some of the block huggers that they make for the 460 in street rods. (Sanderson etc.) What kind of Lincoln radiator are you using?

started on the 460 engine change, took 5 hours to get the core support out , still working on the grill, everything rusted or rounded off and you can't get there from here, thanks for the info on the headers

Sorry to hear you've had problems, but nothing ever seems to go as planned. I,ll keep you posted on my swap if you'll do the same.

found a 288 cam today with a 515 lift for $50 new,
ordered the lifters also , and i got a double roller timing chain. it looks like the sanderson headers will fit ,but they are a little costley , about $250.00. still can't get the grill out, bolts behind haed lites , but they WILL come out one way or the other

If you are going to switch to disk brakes, try ECI components. They sell the complete kit for about $350. That is cheaper than you can rebuilt those old 40 year old units. I just got the kit for my '63 and if you'd like some more information, e-mail me at skip4274@flash.net

By the way, I disagree with the trans-adapt motor mount posts. I have put three motors in trucks with them and had great success. The only problem is dropping the pan if you WELD them in. If you bolt them in, there isn't much problem. Besides, it stiffens the chassis.
