Flushing a heater core-How?

I've heard that you can flush out an aging heater core. Any one care to give a detailed description of how to best do this? Thanks in advance.

About the only way that I know of would be to raise the hood, pull the heater hoses off at the fire wall, and run water from a hose pipe into both sides of the tubes poking through. Basically it is a little radiator and you are running water through it at more volume and pressure.

hope this helps.

Actually you can buy [at least used to] a flush kit from Prestone that has a tee fitting into heater hose that you can attach a garden hose to and a piece that fits into the radiator cap opening. Then you can actually reverse the flow of water through the heater core and radiator. I found that if you shut water flow off and on by bending the hose you can really shake some crud loose and flush it out.

All true, above.
But, I'm willing to bet you're going to have to replace it. Not uncommon in these old trucks.
