Okay i'm stumped, very stumped, i have a 1986 bronco, 351w, flat tops .040 over, 4x4 extreme cam, 1.6 exhaust valves, weiand stealth intake, complete msd system and a 670 holley off road carb. I had built the motor bout 10000kms ago so it's still fresh, just added msd and new carb bout 100km ago, this baby is hard to get started and i'm sure its timing. i have found that it starts better at 10btdc than 12 or 14 or 16, but it is still hard to start, have to pump the gas bout 30 or more times at 10btdc to actually get it fired, that made me think carb so i checked and my choke is getting the aquired 12v and is actually working great, when i flick open the plate and hit the throttle bracket by hand i see the carb squirt 2 nice healthy jets of gas so i am assuming i am getting gas. I even went and changed my plug cables and plugs. Looking at the old plugs baffled me more because the plugs were brownish gray, all 8 off them, perfect looking plugs, so here i am scratching my head some more, thought maybe vacume leak so when i had got the truck started i checked that out, 17 nice and steady, when i snapped the throttle, bounced right down to 0 then up to 25 and back to 17, snapped very quickly like it ought to when its working right, any ideas no matter how small will be apprecited, i'm sure i'm over looking the smallest thing. Thanks
Action, sounds to me that your choke may be getting 12 volts but is it actually working?I question this having the choke( relay) go out in my 1985,I had the same problem starting and running on a cold day.TR
Thanks for the reply Black but it is working for sure, just an update for everyone, problem has been solved, checked it out right after work today while it was dark out.. My brand new MSD cables that i had to custom fit, had pin holes in 6 of the 8 cables, so the cables were arking on my block, upsetting for sure after all the time i had spent on sunday trying to get the thing to work, changed my cables to Accel 8mm and no arking and fired right up, anyone ever had a problem with spark plug cables like this before? Thanks
