Which upgraded fog bulbs?

I am going to be upgrading my headlights to either Sylvania SilverStars or possibly a HID conversion and would also like my factory fog lights to be brighter. Can anyone let me know what would be the best direct replacement bulbs that would work? Thanks.

Your factory bulb is probably a 9145, in which case, you wont find a direct replacement. Many people will put in a 9005 bulb, which is very similar and fill fit with a little persuasion. The 9005 is a high beam bulb, so putting in a 9005 Silverstar will greatly increase the performance of your factory fogs.

Actually, PIAA and NOKYO makes a replacement for that bulb. I know because I just ordered a set of 3000k Nokyo 9145 bulbs. Going for the IS300 look. Brights HIDS with yellow fogs....I miss my IS300

I just Installed a set of Hoen Endurance bulbs and they work Fantastic. They are size H10. They have a Yellow tint to light but they work fantastic in the Fog...10x better then factory.

Would the 9005 be a better performer than the 9145 SilverStar makes?

I just bought a set of 9145 Silver Stars last night at Advance Auto to match the Silver Star headlamp bulbs.

Others here have complained about the 9005's melting the lenses in the fogs. I niticed that the 9005 does not have the black "dipped tip", so it probably does radiate more heat directly forward at the lense.

Why take a chance at melting the lense when the correct 9145 SS is readily available?!?!?!?

Well, I hadn't heard anything about melting the lenses. How much brighter are the 9145 SS's over the stock bulbs? Anyone able to comment on the 9005's melting the lenses? Thanks.

I put the 9005 Silverstars in the fog light and the H13 Silverstars for the head lights and they work great. The 9005 for the fogs are 65 watt and I've been using them for over a year with no problems with the lenses. Using the Silverstars has made a very noticeable difference. Money well spent.

How often do you run your fog lights? Do you always have them on with your headlights?

I have had good luck using the 9005s They are designed to be a high beam bulb, so they are a higher wattage and much brighter than the stock 9145, I always swap them out for some yellow 9005s whenever I have a vehicle that uses them.

Yellow as opposed to the white SilverStars? Is there a benefit to the yellow ones? I would assume to get yellow ones I would need to get a different bulb than the SilverStars?

Yeah, ive used nokya in the past. The reason i like yellow is because you get much better clarity and better visuals of whats on the road. A silverstar with a bluer tint will actually give you a little less visibilty, esp during the rain. using yellow foglights bulbs will help balance it out. In norway, most of the older cars have yellow headlamps, since they are mostly used in rain and snow.
