Jaye,

I used a rearend from a 75 lincoln mark IV under my '53. It had to be shortened..how much depends on the tire/rim combo you want to run on the rear... I used 295/60-15 on 10" rims so mine was shortened 5.5 inches. We hung the rear end from custom ladder bar suspension with coil over shocks. I'm using Lincoln brake setup and Volare in the front so I've got 4 wheel disk brakes. I wasn't sure about the m.c. either so I contacted C.H. Topping in California www.chtopping.com. I already had the m.c. and booster from the Chrysler plus the hanging pedals. Since they were already installed, Vince (the owner) advised me to go with
a Corvette M.c. on my rebuilt Chrysler Booster. He set the whole thing up plus rebuilt my booster for around $300.

I was not able to save the original brake cables from the Lincoln and couldn't find any usable replacements in the salvage yards... I also installed a foot operated e-brake pedal from a mid 70s ford pickup... easy bolt in fit...I ordered a new set of custom cables from Control cable co www.controlcable.com for around $125.00. They have a neat worksheet that tells you how to measure each cable for ordering... They also sell other brake, fuel, control cables and hardware. They are very helpful (as was Vince at C.T. Topping) with old project trucks like ours.
Check out their web pages for some really good tech info

I know I have a lot invested in my brakes now, but from the beginning I wanted something that would work. The truck is going to be powered by a strong 460cuin again from the Lincoln... stopping does seem important ;-)

I've got some pictures and information available if you're interested... you can contact me at ... I don't check in here very often so direct mail is the best/fastest way to catch me...let me know if I can help more...

Where any of these rear ends of the 8" variety. I was someone back yard and he had a disc brake rear end that the center section pulled out like I have seen the 9" rears, but this said 3.50 8 on the tag. Just intrested I assumed they were all 9" ers

Thanks Ed ke6bnl

Yes, they are dont remember the price, at home now. but you can call me at 888 875 MOON. We sell them to hot rodders using blown motors, the graphite is more forgiving than copper so it seals better. the inserts are replaceable and the replacement inserts cost about $20 set.
