i have an 83 ford ranger. it will not start with the key. it will roll off and run fine. has a new starter new battery, key solinoid, electrical switich, starter solinoid, ignition module, and the thing still will not start with the key it worked i drove to the store and then and would never start with the key again. if any one has any advise please let me know.
ok then. here are 2 things you can check at the same time with help from a friend. turn the key to start while the other person check for power on the wire that goes to the starter at the selinoid. if you have power then check for power at the starter. if you dont here then your problem is that wire. also just had this happen to me, put a new starter in and worked fine for a couple of weeks then nothing. when turned the key the lights would dim but nothing.. found out where the wire hooks to the started had worked itself loose and was shorting out agains the oil pan. also if it is the original wire to the starter it could have chaffed agaisnt the frame of the truck and could be shorted there. i would trace this wire out for problems. if all that is fine and your getting power to the starter but still nothing you could have a faulty starter even though its new out of the box.
