It does fine for me. I'm not doing any pulling or towing. Just hauling from time to time. I mainly drive around town and back and forth to work. I don't have any complaints. It's a little slower taking off but good on the top end.

do you do ANY type of 4wd driving? my biggest problem with the 5.4stock was when trying to turn larger 285/75r16 mud terrain tires in this heavy clay/sand type mud here in NJ that in 4wd high trying to drive through a plowed farmers field to go goose/duck/deer/pheasant hunting the motor just wouldn't turn the tires easily resulting in the constant use of low range. I'm just worried that 35's are going to make the 4.30 struggle again and then ill be right back to stock straining motor again......

The 4 wheel I do is just playing around. I have not had and any major issues yet. I did notice the wider tire I put on it does make it more difficult to turn in the mud. Power wise I seem to have enough. I still have the stock 4.10 gears.

I run a '02 CC 5.4 with 8" and 38's Shorty headers with 3" true duals, with the stock 3.73 right now. Pull's a 7500# boat and trailer fine. and gets through the mud as long as its not fully loaded. Will be upgrading to 5.38's in the next month or so.

I looked into changing my gears out. It was A LOT of money. Not sure if it would be worth it for myself.

I was also incorrect in my earlier post. I do have the stock 3.73 gear and not the 4.11. I looked at changing to 4.11

Gear change is absolutely worth it. I had 35s with 3.73s on my old 5.4 and it was awful. Was gonna do 4.30s or 4.56s. Don't even waste the money going from 373 to 410

well, I've lurked on and off for a few years...and this is one of the threads I've followed closely enough to say I've read every post
(well, I skimmed the arguments, but I sure love the pics)

Big thank you to all who give good in-put on this thread.

I ended up with 315/75/16's - the 5.4l and the stock gears seem fine for me...
but I have a dedicated rock crawler I use for heavy wheeling.
For towing and regular driving - my truck's set up is plenty for me.

I can't fit in the home garage, but I CAN still fit in the drive thru's and parking garage's.
Besides...it's still taller than 95% of the other rigs I share the road with everyday anyway.
(which really PO'd a guy at work --he bought a $50K 2500HD with the lift and big wheels/skinny tire combo you see so much of)
My truck is a good 4" taller at the hood and 6" at the drivers seat.
Of course I told him what his first mistake was....
