Crock Pot Hot Dogs
Try this, if you never have.
Fill a crock pot or electric stew pot 2/3 full of water. Add 1/2 cup lemon juice, some chopped fresh garlic, and black pepper.
1/2 the amount of vinegar can be used in place of lemon - but I hope your kitchen is ventilated...
Drop in a few packs of hot dogs and let them go on simmer overnight...
It cooks flavors into them!
(You can also use liquid hickory smoke flavoring)
Jalapeno Hot Dogs can be made too - and TOBASCO!
But I like the old fashioned flavor of garlic&lemon spicing....
This does raise the question of Habanero spiced wieners, with their very own smokey flavor. But I have not tried that yet.

I first tried it because I had some QUOTE: "Old Fashioned COUNTRY Style Hot Dogs" and it took me about a week to pin down what it was that was different about them.
For Smoke Flavored dogs - overnight in the crock at low heat works a whole lot faster than putting them in a gallon jar with smoke flavor, salt, and water.

Do this:
Setup a crock full of smoky (smoke flavored) dogs, setup a crock next to it with Chili, mix some chopped Jalapeno with Saurkraut and put a big bottle of yellow mustard next to it.
DON't use plain old hotdog buns - lay out some hoagy rolls that can be warmed in a microwave (sourdough, if you can find them).
Shred some onion, and put them in a bowl next to it all...
Now THAT is hotdogs as I know them....
PS: You want some different kinds of shredded cheese handy too, also pepper sauces
For vegetables - salsa and chips, corn on the cob, you'll think of something I know...
PPS: A hot grill for toasting things is also good to have.

Oh my. Johnsonville brats. Boiled in beer with sliced onion for about 10 minutes, then tossed on the grill and smoked slowly using Jack Daniel's smoking chips. I loosely wrap the boiled onions in foil poked full of holes to let them soak up some of the smokey flavor too. On some NASCAR weekends, I'll keep the cooked brats in a beer "jacuzzi", my double crock pot with the onions on one side, brats on the other. Spicy brown mustard, whole wheat hoagy rolls, and french fries does it for me.
