im prob like u old rusty in the aspect of finding a sticker price and then try to figure out how they can tack on 2k or so. what about fleet vehicles???there should be some vehicles that are bought up in bulk by big companies that have stripped down versions of a ranger or f-150.....(cable company,phone,electric.etc......) usually alot of leftovers, in 2002 my buddy got a 4cyl ranger that had basically nothong but power sterring and a.c. for like 10 k, the dealer had like 10 of those trucks on the lot
> Why is it so hard for Ford to grasp this concept?
I recently put someone into a new 2006 Ranger 2.3L 5 speed A/C ($3000 cash back) for less then she paid for her new 1995 Ranger 2.3L 5 speed. 1995 dollars were worth a lot more too ;-) Plus, she got more options on the 2006 too.
If you want a strippy F-series you can buy them or order them. Just many people do not want a 6 cyl. in a F-series and most people do not want a reg. cab (which accounts for less then 25% of sales).
Most people want automatic, v-8, a/c, ext. cab at min,. so that is what most dealers stock.

I wanted a well equipped standard cab. I could find well equipped trucks or I could find standard cabs but the well equipped trucks were not standard cabs and the standard cabs were work trucks. When I finally found what I wanted, the dealer had two and they were about to have their first birthday. I bought mine and he sold the other but he didn't order any more like I bought and a friend of mine can't find one now.
A friend of mine used to work in the Edison, NJ "Ranger" production plant. He purchased the type truck you want. He told the dealer he wanted "The Contractor Grade".
The truck was a f-150, shortbed, standard cab, v6, auto, p/s, a/c, rubber mat flooring and I believe it even has CRANK windows.
I don't recall the cost but he WAS a Ford employee at the time.
If you go shopping again push the dealer to show you this package.
My friend said they won't admit to the package for obvious reasons (no $$$$ to be made) but as he worked on the production line he knew it existed.
Good Luck!
