Never use Wikipedia as a referance. It's information provided by the masses. Meaning even if a myth is false, if most people believe it, it stays on there.
DEU is an abbreviation for Germany,
Also, The Country Specific Domain extension is .de

Why is it DE and DEU instead of GER or GE?
Because Germany is not the country's real name. The real name? Deutschland.
Much like there really isn't a country named Spain. Spain's actual country name is Espana.
There's all kinds of weird little known facts like that that I stumble on when dealing with Internet Technology. The Internet is global & crosses borders all the time, and I have to deal with people & companies from all over the world on a weekly basis.
