On two of the king pin lubrication points and one front spring shackle I cannot force any grease in even with a heavy duty gun and after having replaced the grease fittings. My thought is that the old grease hardened up and is plugging things up.
The only solution I have come up with is to heat the joints slightly with a heat gun and hope that frees the old grease. I don’t want to replace the king pins because they are still pretty tight.
Do you have access to a garage with a pressurized grease gun? That packs a bit more of a punch than the hand grease guns. If it can't get grease in, then try the heat method. be careful not to heat it up too much as you could melt or distort the bushing in there.
My '60 has a fitting that I can't get grease into. It seems to me that the bushing inside has turned some and that is why the grease is not getting in. I don't know if applying heat will solve this. Best of luck...
the heat idea has worked for me. Also, at our local tractor supply store, you can buy a "zerk buster". You fill it with grease, apply it to the zerk, and smack the end of it with a hammer. The grease is forced in by the hydraulic pressure created when you hit it. Some farmers have told me this works too.
Before applying heat to your grease, remove the zerk and pick out the dry grease from the hole with an awl or rat tail file. Spray a liberal amount of your favorite penetrating fluid into the hole with the small straw. This usually will clear up the "no go" of grease. It may take a couple of shots of pen. oil but you will see this works very well without heating the grease up.
My 53 was like this. The original suspension is very simple and not hard to take apart. Take the pins out and clean the passages of the hard grease and re-install.
