I would like to know that as well. Also, does anyone know if its possible to have error codes in the ecm but NO check engine light. 97 F350 460 crew 4wd w/ 8.5 mpg.

I don't see how removing the canisters that filter the air that gets pushed out of the block by the pumping motion of the pistons would help horsepower or milage. You won't be removing a load from the motor by removing the filters, just poluting more.

And yes, the ECU can store codes without showing the CE light.

How would removing the canister give you more hp or mileage? Like conanski said it doesn't remove a load from the engine. I think your local mechanic is blowing smoke up your a$$. Maybe he tells people that their muffler bearings need to be greased too

I need a new canister ... so ask him if he has one that was removed from a dual tank 90 inline 6. That canister captures the vapors from your tank(s) in it gets purged and brought into the combustion process ... if anything removal will cause a change in MPG ... not HP ... and that change will give you more MPG only if you pay for your fuel in pennies and nickles.

I have heard hooking it back up will help with MPG ... but that could be from the LMC catalog, mine had been "disconnecte" (broken off inlets) since I got the truck.
