I'm looking at buying an msd pro-billet distributor for my 390. I'm shure it comes with a small cap, and my jegs catalog say that the adapt-a-cap does not fit the 390 distributor My question is does msd make a bigger cap for the 390 distributor
I don't think MSD makes a large cap for the FE, I believe MALLORY makes one, I believe it is there 9000 series or something like that. You can go on their website and check it out if you are interested.
But like RapidRuss said their is really no point in it unless you are spinning the thing up to 7500rpm constantly to prevent flex, or you just want the "wow" factor under your hood.
answer, yes I have a built 390 and yes I turn it tighter than I should so I think I will benifit. I already run an msd 6al ignition and a 77 electronic dist. w/ vaccume advance which is not even hooked up because the motor will ping bad when hooked up. Which leaves me only the 12 degrees advance which is built into the dist. and what I put into it. The reason for going with an msd is to eliminate vaccume advance and to have better control over my advance curve and be able to tune the advance curve. I bought the bigger cap to fit the 77 dist and was wondering if msd mad the bigger cap too, which i do not think they do.
i have a msd distributor for sale i'll take 220 for it it's a msd pro billet dissy in an unopened box (got 2 instead of 1) has mechanical advance not vacuum
i also have a stock distributor with pertronix, a summit racing cap, pertronix wires, flame thrower chrome coil i would be willing to sell all of that for 200
