Gas V10 Oil Pan Leak

My F250 SD V10 has an oil leak at the rear of the engine. I pulled the dust plate from the front of the bell housing and it's dry inside so I do't think it is the engine rear main seal, raher I think it's the oil pan gasket. Last time I had it in to the Ford dealer for servicing, they kind of blew it off saying it's not that bad and they didn't show any interest (so I think it must be a bear of a job to replace the oil pan gasket). The oil leaks down onto the exhaust pipe, burns and smells bad. Question: How hard is it to change the oil pan gasket and how much should it cost? Thanks, Al

Not sure of the cost of a gasket, but it should be affordable. I've changed a few oil pan gaskets and it's not a real difficult job. Basically you drain the oil, then remove all the bolts to the pan, remove and clean the old gasket and area, put in the new gasket, rebolt and refill with oil. Check for leaks. For the gasket though, I would go OEM though there are decent companies out there that manufacture aftermarket gaskets.

i may be wrong but i think you have to jack the engine up a bit to get the pan off, just loosen the engine mounts and jack it up by the pan with a block of wood inbetween, the put some blocks of wood or something inbetween the crossmember and block to hold it up, remove pan. you may also want to loosen the tranny mount, and watch your clearences between stuff and the firewall.

It is a pretty big job. I have the PDF file for it if anybody wants to shoot me a PM with their e-mail.

I have uploaded it here http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/44084/V10-Oil-Pan.pdf.html but do not know how user friendly it is for others to get.

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate all the help on this. Looks like a borderline do it yourself job, but I think I'll turn it in to the Ford dealer. Smells like an $800+ job. Thanks Again. Al
