Vote - 4X4 F250 from TigerDan

Time to take a vote - Tiger has a 72 F250 2wd complete and in not too bad a shape. We can use as a starting point on our truck.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=11247

First, the F250 part is because we want as stout a truck as we can get. It will be heavy, and big enough to be awkward on the trail - but should be able to climb a tree and fall over a cliff and still keep on ticking.

It has a long bed on it - a short bed would be less awkward, but they do not handle as well in the slick. I have owned both, and like the ride of a long-bed better but like the sporty looks of a short-bed. Anyway, it is what it is.

We have already decided to us a 460/C6 with attached transfer case in whatever truck we do.

Please stay on topic if you answer this - just discuss the type of truck we want. If you vote and later change your mind let me know and we will correct it.

You can vote one of three ways - yes, no, and maybe after we look some more.

I voted "maybe but look for something better first" only because of the 4x4 issue. I think it might be hard to convert this baby to 4x4, but I may be wrong. If I am wrong, clue me in on the plan and I might change my vote.
For some reason, I thought Dan's truck was 4x4. I suppose I could find all the parts to convert it as I have seen alot of old 4x4's in the wrecking yard, but do we have the capablility to do a conversion like this?

Yes, you can convert 2wd to 4wd - remove the I beams and crossmember, and install a dana 44 front axle. Everything bolts together, except that you do need to drill some new holes in the frame.

btw, this is contingent on Tiger providing a good title.

I voted to go for it using Dan's truck. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

Did you guys see what Skipped_link posted on the other thread? He has a 77 F250 4x4 frame, with power steering already intact, sitting at his place. He said we could have it. I think it might be a good idea to just bolt Dan's cab, fenders and bed to that frame.
Something to think about

That sounds like a better idea than fabbing in a 4x system. Specially if he's willing to donate the frame.

We need to make a decsion soon...like tomorrow, as the engine pull is scheduled for this weekend, right?

What about going ahead and getting the engine anyway, and keeping it as a backup if we should happen to buy a 460-powered truck that runs? We could build up this one and swap it in later. Really, it's a steal for a 460 any way you look at it.

I don't think so, but I'll verify that mine will indeed work for us today.

OK, if we buy the 4x4 nighteyez found us, we are going to need the engine from Carson City.

Just got home from work Clint. Boy I'll tell ya, it's either firewalls or network system collapse at work. Internet was cut off and wont be back until sometime next week. This is the first time I've had to access the forums here so I have some catching up to do.
Okay, so we DO need that engine at Carson City, is what I am to understand. Cool, I will go out there to picknpull tomorrow to make sure it is still intact. I will post tomorrow afternoon/evening to confirm that it is a worthy trip to Carson, for those out of town guys.

Yea, but I am not the boss - we are all in this together. What I am saying is that the original truck is available, we have a donor truck, and need an engine/tranny - - - if we go this way. I can't say what we need if we decide to go a different way. . . .

More people voted to wait and see, but that was before we learned that Nighteyez's find was still available.
