Has anyone had miss caused by #7 and #8 jumping each other?!!!
this is the advice I got from a part store! along with a possible plug or wire failure! what ya think!
plugs,wires,cap and rotor where replaced six months ago! the miss was there before!

 

Try pulling the dog house off at night.If the wires are arcing out it will light up like a Christmas tree if anythings crossfiring. I had the same problem-all new wires cap etc. and didnt see anything til I looked at it night. There was a metal threaded rod coming out of the valve cover arcing out the coil wire (brand new with flex cover on it too!)

What brand are your cap and rotor? What brand are the wires? If you got them at the "Zone" then you've found your problem. I've never had any luck with their ignition parts on a ford. I buy my spark plugs there because Napa doesn't sell motorcraft plugs. I use the napa premium wires ($65 a set) and the napa premium cap and rotor (about $45 or so). I only have to replace them about once every two years or 30k miles that way.

 

just remember crossed wires, even when replaced, remain crossed unless you wire them ONLY by the firing order, NOT " the way they were run before".

Usually not a problem on a Ford because of the firing order, unlike a SBC.

 

I bought the cap and rotor at car quest!! don't remember where the wires were bought! not at the zone! maybe at Advance Auto!! plugs where from car quest!

 

don't suppose that rubber grommet the cap is supposed to seat on has rotted half away, now do you?...naw, most of em disappear completely....

 

the cap has a black plastic pug! no rubber!

 

some time here soon I'm going too try to separate the wires that just ran under the plentium!

 

Yes, I've heard of the spark wire jump issue, can't say I've experienced it though. Supposedly it is helped by separating the wires so they are not next to each other. I have had issues with non-Motorcraft wires, big time. Christmas lights effect, would start one day, next day when damp out wouldn't fire.....After several attempts to replace wires with other brands I swear by the Motorcraft parts and swore at the others!

 

No no no...not the PLUG! Large flat Oring on dist. base. I had one on mine and have replaced it twice, but Ive had techs and dealers say its not needed... but when half is broken off, the cap sits cockeyed and one post may misfire.

Ain't that a twitch the way they run them wires??? lol

 

I have redone more then one tune up while working at Chevy and Ford dealers because the wrong (read cheap) plug was used. On a Ford Autolite or Motorcraft (70/80s you can pretty much use anything quality such as Bosch) and CHevy only AC/Delco.

Bad wires will ruin a tune up. I have posted before how I have returned wire sets that had a higher resistance then the ones I was replacing!

 

Sorry but I'mm lost! I've never seen that before on a dist.base besides the oring seal that sits in the intake! sorry again!
