OK, relaying this to you from the wifey...bear with me, 01 XLT, all power & such. Truck quit while idling at traffic light, engine, stereo, dash lights all conked out. No rough running, sputtering before etc.... Put back in park to start it...nada....tried again...started on 3rd turn of the key...no problem for the rest of the trip home. Any ideas? Battery terminals/wires and battery are all OK. I know my bro had an issue with his focus and the chip in his key which sounds similar to this occurrence.
I have the same problem with an 02. No warning, cel is not on, no codes, usually starts right up. Replaced the IAC valve, no change. Any other suggestions?
I would look under the hood where the battery and fuse box are located. You could have a loose relay, main fuse or corrosion. You should also look at the connector under the battery box. There is one directly under the battery box that connects to the powertrain[trans/engine]. I would also look at the underside of the fuse box for corrosion.
Pull all the fuses and relays, and re-seat them. Obviously, all accessory power and ignition power to the vehicle is being lost, but the starting system still has power as it cranks immediately. You are cycling the ignition switch and all the relays under the hood, so perhaps one of them is intermittent.
