Front tank problems

I have a 94 Ford F-150 with a 5.8L engine. My rear tank works fine but whenever i switch to my front tank it will just die. It's freezing out so i put some gas antifreeze in the front tank this morning, but not sure if this will help. Any other suggestions?

Mine would not work when it was filled to the top ... when I would take 3 to 5 gallons out it would work. You may have a cross flow problem, when running from your rear tank the fuel is supposed to return to the rear tank, if it doesn't all go to the rear it overfills the front. The fix for this is to replace the front pump. Since replacing mine I have not used the front tank much ... but don't have the crossflow problem anymore. You would probably still be covered by Ford for the extended recall on this problem if it exists. If the tank is not full ... then disregard all I have said, don't go by the gauge though, you could have a float with a hole in it and tank full while reading empty.

Hey SilverSport,

I had the same issue of my front tank being filled by fuel from the rear tank. I too replaced the fuel pump in the front tank at a cost of $400. Are you saying that Ford has issued a recall on this issue? I just had the repairs completed a few months ago.

Thanks!

Andrew

They have had one for a while ... my truck is a 90 ... and I think the recall only went back like 12 or 15 years, so I was not in it, bought mine beginning of this year. I did my own, found a seller on eBay with the pumps for less than $100 new ... and it works, I would have paid as much for plugs so I could just run off the rear.

I'm glad that you were able to find the fuel pump at such an awesome price! I'll have to research the recall issue. My truck is a 1997 model so it may have been included in the recall. If so, then Ford owes me $400!

Thanks!
