2006 6.0L Diesel Problems

I work for a fire department and we have an 05 F-450 ambulance with the 6.0. In 10 months it was in the shop 16 times. In the shop as we speak, they say the earliest they can get one of the parts needed is 2/13. This wil be the second time it has been in the shop for 5 weeks or more. We were having issues with it just losing all power while driving down the road. They replaced all types of sensors, both head gaskets, all types of relays, finally narrowed it down to the oil pump grenaded. Had to wait another 2 weeks for that part. Now one of the parts that we need to get it back is on "National Backorder" until at least 2/13. We are going through the Lemon Law process now. My honest opinion, stay away from the 6.0. I personally have a 97 7.3, with 163K miles and nowhere near the problems os the 6.0

The 7.3 was lost due to EPA mandates and the 6.0 is as well. The 6.0 is not well suited for the particulate filter strategy.
IMO, the 6.0 was developed as a short term EPA band-aid to be used as the basis for the 6.4. The 6.0 issues caused the 6.4 design to migrate to what it is today. Again, just my honest opinion.

I bought an '05 F-350 dually in Aug. of '04 after flipping an '03 F-350 dually w/ 7.3. Initially I was very happy with the new truck but after about 50K it started coming apart at the seams. In the last 6 months of '06 it made 12 trips to the dealer for the same issue (I was without the truck for a total of 53 days). When it broke down the last time I had it towed to a dealer 160 miles away where I know some of the mechanics and asked them to look it over and give me a stright answer on whether or not to keep the truck. They had it for a day and called to tell me everything was fixed. That was early Dec. and (knock on wood...) I haven't had any issues since.
I believe the issues with the 6.0 are more a factor of mechanics that don't know how to diagnose / fix the issues. I know of at least 15K worth of parts that were put on my truck that were not needed (PCM, ECM, FICM, etc...)

I had an 03 6.0 built in March of 03. I purchased it in August of 03. I waited to have it flashed until November of 03. I put over 40,000 miles (most of them towing different trailers weighing around 5k) on the truck with only a return to the dealer for brake rotor replacement and an egr replacement (I didn't have a problem with it but it was found when I was having the tranny fan checked). I had zero engine/transmission related problems.
I replaced the 03 with an identical 06 after the 03 was wrecked. I have 11k on the new truck that has been used almost exclusively to tow a 9k camper all over the country. I have had no problems with the 06. I have owned only these two diesel powered trucks but have been very satisfied with both. Based on my experience with these trucks, my next truck will be another SD.

I am due to get my truck out of the service hanger around 4:30 p.m. CST and then the time clock will start. I want the truck to work and run down the road with as many miles as I can put on it. I will keep all updated. Also, I have been converted from A to Shell oil and am now currently going to my A A counseling for the issue of denial of the brand of oil I was using and the scam i was sold on. Thanks to Bob Ayers and npccpartman I have seen the light and have straightened my ways. Thanks Guys and go PSD Ford.

It isn't saying very much to say that a truck hasn't had any problems when it is only a couple of years old. I always thought the reason a person bought a new truck was to NOT have problems for quite a while. I work out of my truck and I can't afford problems. For the kind of money a new truck costs, even 1 in 20 is unacceptable.By the way, my V-10 has 83000 miles on it hauling tools and a 30ft camper all over the country without a problem. I forget,WHY ARE THESE DIESELS SO GREAT?
