59 F100 Paint Chips - ?online?

Mornin' all,

Fordmann Posted the ">>" reply below, back in February. Where can I see these? Online by chance? Or traipse down to the Automotive Paint Specialist? They aren't listed in the attached catalog by chance? And what are the 2-tone schemes Base Color/Trim white or vice versa?

TIA - Greg

59 F100 Paint Chips - ?online?

Hi Greg,
Unfortunately there are no paint chips online that I'm aware of. John's F-Fun Hundreds only lists the color names and codes. I do however see paint chips for sale on E-bay from time to time for the '59 Ford truck. If you keep searching there, I'm sure you will eventually come across some. As to a visual of the two-tone color scheme (same from '57 thru '60), Check out this thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/48_60/649.html
For 1959 trucks, the two-tone effect was always a combination of Colonial White with any of the other colors.
If you can post your paint code, I can give you the Ford part number for that color of paint. I believe the paint store can mix it from that. The part number for Colonial White is M 1J 524 (paint code "E").
Hope this helps.
Kenny

59 F100 Paint Chips - ?online?

Thanks Kenny,

My truck is one that went to the Marines so based on earlier postings in the Archives. I suspect that the color code will be "X". My typical resto is a Military Vehicle but the wife is getting tired of all these military trucks in the driveway. Keeps mumbling something about the neighbors thinking that I'm starting a militia.

So I'll paint this one in a civvy two tone and keep the original color behind the seat so that I can back out of the color at a later date. To that point, which color went in the cab on a two tone?

I'll post the whole VIN tomorrow to see if someone can decode it. I'll also put some .JPGs on my website and post the link.

Thanks

Greg

Kenny,

I've got a '53 F250 that I'm doing an NOS Resto on. I have the paint chips for that year. The truck was a light blue, I believe they called it Glacier Blue. I need to find out what the whitish/tanish color for the grill was. Do you know? Also do you know if the wheels were painted that same color stock?

BTW.........Great site as I have been reading and learning from all of you.

THANX!!

Stickshift,
I have a glacier blue 53 also...as well as a 55 that needs the grille painted and a couple parts trucks.
I need the same info for the grille: does anyone have a color code/supplier for the cream/offwhite grille color??? And does anyone know if this was the same for 53-56 (Will paint every grille I own in one shot if I can get the paint code).
I am getting tired of all the body color grilles I see out there.

The wheels were painted black until 1956 (I think- could have been 55) when they were painted cream or white. This is off the top of my head, but I am sure in 53 they were black. The book FORD TRUCKS SINCE 1905 would have great pictures and info.

Thanks- you are right, this is a great site!

Thanks 4 by Ford for the confirmation on the black paint for the wheels. I had read in the Mid-Fifty's catalog that this was the case. My wheels are currently a cream colorand look original. They have some old 10 ply bias tires on them for now while I am working on the truck. When I go to put new tires on, I will be able to see the original color of the wheels when we get the old tires off.

I tried that scratch'n sniff site listed above for the grille paint but no luck there.
Any one know of the true Ford color for the '53 grilles?
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi guys, I'm sorry I don't know the color of the '53 grille. I'll keep my eyes peeled and try to dig into some of my books.

Greg, if you go back to my previous post and click on that link, you'll see a picture of a two-tone interior. The picture is in black and white, but you can tell from the picture what color goes where. I hope this helps you.

Here's what I know: the wheels in '53 and '54 were the body color. In '55 and '56 the wheel color and the grille color was snow-shoe white. The grille color in '54 was called Sungate Ivory. In '53 it was very similar, not sure if it was called Sungate Ivory.
A lot of this paint info can be found in "Ford Truck Specifications, Features Manual" which can be bought from your favorite Ford truck catalog store for about $10.
I got paint chips from Colorite. See their web site at: http://www.color-ite.com/ Send them a stamped, self addressed envelope and they will send you the chips you want. I got one for my meadow green body and one for the grille.

ABE,
Thanx for the info on the website. I'll check them for the grille color on my '53 and also confirm the wheel color. I have some original'53 body paint chips but may also get them to send me theirs just to compare.
