So here are a few more questions. My truck is under an extended warranty. My dealer said that they were unsure if I could put pipes on without voiding the factory warranty. I checked through all the warranty stuff and my warranty only covers from the cat. forward. All the work I want to do is from the cat back. So, I should be OK, right? It is not like a FM 40 is really doing anything to anything covered by warranty except maybe letting the truck breathe a little better. Second, what about single vs. dual. I had duals on my last truck, but never really saw a need for them. All I am concerned about is sound, not the .000001 MPG better I can get. I know duals lower back pressure which can be debated as good or bad. I just don't see paying the extra $110+ for duals verse a FM 40 with a single 4" tips 45 degrees out the back. I think it would look just as nice as duals. Are there any sound advantages to duals? I would think you would be able to hear it better in the cab with the windows rolled down with duals?!?!?

the dual set up will give you a 0% gain in any thing . as to the muffler stay with a slightly bigger one "50 eries" in mass . esp since i know what my step bother goes though up there on the cape with his 350/350 powered 100 point restored 67 nova and he has the stock type exhaust on it.

the v10 is a hard engine to tone tune the exhaust on. some are louder inside the cab then others are outside so be prepaired to change it if it's bad inside.

I had a 40 and know guys who have 40s that have not had any issues. I guess it really depends on where you go. They seem to give the muscle car and rice burner guys a hard time around here.

You should be fine regarding the extended warranty. They like to use the "scare" tactic because they themselves do not understand the warranty.

Regarding the dual exhaust issue. Do it if you want to spend the extra $110+...but...

As already mentioned...no advantage going dual from the muffler back that a single 3" or 3.5" exhaust would do. As for the FM40 or other muffler type...that is all a gamble at best. I personally do not care for the extra noise factor...and heck I even installed a FM70 3" in / 3" out single exhaust on my 1976 F150 390FE. So that shows...I like the throaty sound...just not the noise. We all have our own tastes...and just my .02 here.

Good luck with your choice...

Thanks biz. The saleman just simply said he didn't know and that I should check into that. It is not that big of a deal. As for going with a single I just don't want it to look "goofy" I don't know why I would think it would, but everyone goes with duals around here. I don't want it to look like 1/2 my exhaust fell off lol! I might just want to do something different. Thanks for your 2 cents.

i had 2 problems with duals. had to do with the left side tail pipe and tail pipe size. in one spot it was too close to the plastic gas tank for comfort. the other side it lost the heat sheild for the spare tire.

I didn't even think of that captchas! Thanks for putting that in my head. The duals do get really cxlosem to that gas tanks. I forgot all about the spare tire becuase I didn't have one on my Chevy. Will I have to remove the spare tire to have duals or just the heat shield?

If you have a stock tire size for your spare, you should be alright. I think if you are running a 35 inch tire and your spare is the same size, you wouldn't be able to do the duals. But I'm not 100% on that. And the heat shield...well I have no clue on that.

The spare tire is stock, but brand new. I looked under the truck and I think it would be pretty hard to run duals, but that is what you pay the muffler shop for!

It's really not as hard as it would seem. It is a snug fit...but there is still a little room to play with. But yeah if you are really serious about the duals...I'd go for it...they look great on my truck...and I don't mess around when it comes to my truck...I like things to be amazing with my truck! Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks Ballz. When I get the spare cash I'll give my shop a call and see what they say. I would spring for the duals as long as I can keep the spare tire. I know the second I take it off and put in the bed, I'll take it out for some reason and get a flat.

i had 4inch pipes and the spares heat sheild had to go to make them fit.stay with 3inch you should have no problem as that is the stock size and clear perfectly.the left side .well just watch that plastic gas tank.

I checked my manifold bolts today when I finally had some time while it was still light and all 9 of the bolts that are in there look good lol! It seems like they have been replaced at some point, but the one furthest to the left when looking in the left wheel well just isn't there. Not that it broke off or anything, it is just not there. I can put a pen tip in it without any problem. I am thinking someone just didn't put it in or something like that. I am taking it is for service this coming week and that will be addressed. This has to be where the ticking is coming from. I heard it on the right side. Would this cause ticking only when in drive?

chuck641, if your still there I have the same issue with my 2002 250 v10. This might sound like a stupid question but, when you checked your studs, did they just spin when you tried to tighten them, and did you fix them your self or did you take it in?
