Friend wants to start a plant.

He is looking for a system that will produce around 10,000 gal. or so. I figured I would post about it and see what plants everyone thinks he should use.

On a side note I have been making a gallon a weekend to cover my additive. Truck loves it checking mileage this tank.

I figured I should clean that up a little. He wants to produce between 2000 and 10000 gallons a month. He has loggers and other bussines's that would buy it. The logging alone uses 10-12000 gal. a month.

What type of feed stock oil are you going to use, and how are you going to come up with 10,000 gallons/month?

Reasonably around 2000 a month. He could sell in excess of 10,000 if he had it. He plans on collecting waste oil in Arkansa. He recently traveled there and fryers were in every bussines. This could amount to nothing but he usually goes through with his ideas. He is looking for info on automated processors. Does Bio require a placerd to be shipped. Thank you Fabman.

Biodiesel does not have to be placarded yet. As far as I know, nobody is making a automated system for this small a processer.

I can make 500 gal per day with my homebuilt processer, but if he is going to make it for sale he's going to run into a lot of "red-tape" and extra expense.

When you put BD up for sale you attract the Govt's attention, aint it great. Not only will you have to collect road taxes from the users and pass them on to state and fed but you will have EPA draped over your shoulder.

Phydeaux is right. I design these plants, and once you attempt to sell biodiesel you have major hurdles to consider. You MUST register with the NBB [at $2,500 + $.01 / gal/year]. You'll also have to register your product with the EPA.

Then building the plant....................You'll have to comply with 2007 building, plumbing, electrical codes. Then you'll have to apply for state AND federal waste-water AND air pollution permits. Ready to sell bio right? Wrong! Now you have to supply proper testing documentation FOR EACH BATCH! and the tests cost $1,200 EACH!!!!!!!

The only way to avoid all this headache is to make it for off-road use, and form a legal Co-Op.

Ok, to start it is for off-road use. Logging equipment and generaters. I have cheched out your system in your profile and read many of your posts. I have found in a search before (when I wasn't interested), automated systems that would make 50-80 gallon batches in a day or two. Can't seem to find anything right now. Thank you again

That's great, but I still don't understand why you need it fully automated. You'll have much better luck with somebody "babysitting" the plant. Based on my design you could easily build a small system that would produce 500 + gallons per day X 10 days per month = 5,000 gallons/month. In any event the only way to sell to the "loggers" is to form a co-op. By forming a local co-op you avoid having to deal with the GOV and the NBB, because co-op members can "buy" the biodiesel without a "sale" occurring [as far as the gov is concerned].

I live in Arkansas and you are right, there are a lot of businesses with fryers. To make that much though, you would have to do a LOT of collecting. The best I've found is to deal with the commercial collectors. Yes, you do have to pay for it. About .17/#
I've got a system I put together, and can process about 400 gal every 2 days. I had thought of going commercial, but there are already 2 plants in operation and another 2 on the way. I've been thinking that maybe I just need to scale back or do the coop thing to get things moving.

This is the only "fully-automated" plant that I know of at this time, less than 3 million gal/year. This company is the one that wants to merg with my company [on a different thread here]. Good luck!
