Saw a billboard in So. America a while back. Had a picture of a small econobox made by Diamler Benz. Next to the pic they had three statements saying "German Engineering"
"Swiss Precision"
"American Nothing"
Me niether but not due to some weird-O ad campagin, I've worked on enough of them and I know how their put togeather, that's enough for me. (I give my 91 jeep a bit of a pass as it's still mostly an AMC degsin)
Remember You can NEVER actually fix a Chrysler product, you can only work on them a lot.
I'll buy older dodges, like the 83 van above I had an 85 with 240k on the original 318/727 combo. My turbo Omni runs like a crazy ape!(though I've added some HD parts to it)
Wranglers and Cherokees don't count as Chrysler products. Like Krocus said it's basically AMC.
Now my Dad has a 95 Ram 4x4 that at 80k needs a trans AND rear end rebuilds already.... Sadly it's not because of driving style....
Same transmission, I think the bands probably need adjusting. It has the torqueflite 727 which is considered by many people to be a tough transmission. I am wanting to think they used the torqueflite for 20 or 30 years in vehicles. Someone else on here might can verify this.
We had an 02 Dakota 4x4 & never really had any problems with it. With a 3sp with OD automatic. It was under geared with a 4.7 & 3:54 gears.
We have an 88 Dodge D250 2wd, 360 4bbl, 4sp, 4:10 gears soon to be changed to 3:54.
It is a great running truck, 100,000 miles.
