Smile looking to buy a used Diesel

Hello
I'm new here and and new to light duty Diesels, just have a couple of questions.
1st - I am looking at a 1990 F250 with the 7.3 ID diesel, with the E trani. it has 208,000k and seems to be in exelent shape, asking $3500 CAN. But I noticed that at idle the engine stumbles and the revs stay at 900 rpm, it has lots of power and does not hesitate on acceleration, is there something wrong or is it normal for this year of truck.
2nd - What kind of fuel mileage can I expect , I don't haul anything and would be mostly town driving.
3rd - is there anything else I should check out. have there been any known issues with this engine.
Is this a good deal or should I pass.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
John

Welcome to FTE to the both of you. I have a 90 and it is much more reliable and easier to fix than my PSDs. For some better information on the IDIs there is a forum down the page just a bit called Pre-Powerstroke, for 94 and older. There are some gurus there that can answer all your questions.

If you can find out the history of the truck it would be helpful. All trucks have issues of some kind. 208k is not a lot of miles. The trans can be a weak spot, but I would guess it has been replaced by now. Mine is used for work, loaded with tools. It gets about 12-13 average. A little better on the highway.Less towing.
