ruff idle????
hi i have a 1998 f-150 with 170,000kms. its a 4x4 with a 4.6l v8. Now when i start it, it will have a ruff sounding idle. now it idles around 700-800rpm range. i tried gas line antifreeze, fuel injector cleaner. I only tried those because there are no warning lights or check engine lights. so now what could be the problem or is it a problem. could it be my fuel filter, or my exhuast cats?

there are a lot of things it can be. can explain in more detail what you mean by rough idle? do it knock, vibrate bad idle up and down or make a funny sound. does the rough idle go away after it warms up? the rpm range in park sound right at 700 to 800 so i don't think it is the iac unless the idle jumps up and down. i think about maybe a tune up or cleaning the mass air flow if the idle is rough all the time.
