I can't recall what year ford started to put the 460 in a 4x4 truck. Even if they did you may have to change out the frame pearches but this is a complete guess on my part.
Of course you will need to fab up some sort of HYD set up for the clutch which I will have to do some time in the hear furture for my 78 ZF 460 bronco project.
In my case I could have used the stock tranny cross member mounts to bolt in the ZF but i choose to make my cross member fit the ZF tranny by cutting and welding to try and get a cleaner look. The stock mount on my bronco would have been hanging off the back of the cross member plus I didn't have that piece at the time of install or moc up of the ZF in the chassis.
Not sure if I helped you or not. I would post or atleast search the 73/79 forum and find out if the 76 truck ever came with a 460 and then look into the frame pearches to see if they are different.
IMO what ever it takes I would make it fit. I've made my own mounts for 460 swaps into 78/79 4x4 trucks before.
If you do decide to make your own mounts I would pick up on the center line of the crank and the output shaft and install the 460/ZF to the same measurements. This will help keep the drive line angles close to what they are now.
I wouldn't bother with the frame perches several companies make swap motor mounts, as well as one member on here who makes solid ones.
As to the ones that aren't solid I feel these are about the best. http://performanceunlimited.com/cust...ginemount.html
I have also seen ones built by making an adapter plate for 400 motor mounts to mount to 460 blocks.
