I got a leak, and some pictures of it

I noticed that my front axle was looking shiny the other day with some oil sitting on top of it. So today I went and looked around. I took some pictures of where it spread, and where I think it came from. I believe it is coming from the tube in the last 2 pics, but I don't know what exactly that tube is. Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't that the fuel bowl drain tube?

I dont believe so, I think thats further left (facing the engine). The residue felt like oil, not fuel.

So do you think that is the leading cause of this mess? Maybe I should go and look to see if that fuel bowl lever is closed all the way.

Or it's full of grit. Cycle the lever 10 times to try and clear it out.
If all that fails you're stuck with taking the valve apart and replacing the o-rings. Or going to Ford and replacing the whole thing, depending on how bad the damage is and/or money you want to spend.

Amen to that!

This is a very good place to keep our eyes and ears open.

I never thought I'd know so much about what makes my truck "tick" as I've learned here.

ABS light? Jack it up and check for play in the front hubs! Excessive play, change the hub before it fails out in the middle of nowhere.

Soft shifts? Sonnax or BTS valve body!

Clunk at start-off? Lube those splines with the green stuff!

Clunk from the passenger dash? Blend door.

If one of us has seen something, and followed it through to conclusion, we ALL profit from the experience!

Isn't the Internet a fun toy?

So what exactly would I be replacing?

Two o-rings.

See posts 11 and 15 in this thread for a explanation;
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/319215-leaking-fuel.html

See post 22 for a source of Viton's.

Those o-rings should be pretty easy to replace - and that is definately the fuel bowl drain tube. Is is just me, or does it seem like there's been quite a few of those particular o-rings leaking lately?

Well JT, I've noticed the same thing but Alan has a valid point. While we would all like to point to the new diesel as a source, we must not rule out the possibilty that our trucks are aging and this could just be a result of that. Time will tell. If it is ruining our seals, those injector o-rings worry me the most.
