Cold weather & Fuel

couple of questions???

1. at what point do i need to start worring about my fuel gelling up. I live in washington state and normally i wouldnt worry about it ... but we've had some freak storms as of late, and with this massave snow storm that just dumped enought snow to practicly shut everything down.... the temp at night has been getting low... there reporting it may be getting down ot the single digits, even as low as 0 degrees FER......

2. does anyone have an opinion on a good brand name for a block heater and how to go about using one when you live in an appartment complexe. I cant just pull the truck into the garage and plug it in...soooooooo what other options do i have... or am i just S#!T out of luck ?? Thanks for the input??!!??

IIRC at 10-20F you need to switch from #1 to #2 or visa versa, I always get the numbers confused. If you can't plug the truck in for at least an hour it is kind of pointless getting a block heater, just start it and let it warm up for 5 minutes or more.

not sure what you mean by IIRC... but i was reading some other threads and was wondering if anyone new weather or not DK had anything that helps the fuel from gelling or another supplament that could be added to help prevent this.... ?? thanks

Bunch of anti-gel additives avaliable. The DK product is tried and true. Pretty sure it's the white bottle that has the anti-gel properties.

You have a block heater, possibly no cord. Cords are available online or at IH dealers for far less than Ford dealer.

That doesn't solve your problem about electrical outlet though....

If you apartment complex doesn't have any outdoor receptacles, I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, other than running a cord out a window...which isn't very practicle.

If it doesn't get cold often, I personally wouldn't worry too much about one cold spell.....but that's just me.

Go with a Viper 791XV remote start! 1/2 mile range and I had mine set up for a delayed start to allow the plugs to warm up - plus had it programmed to run for 20 minutes before shutting down (allows for a nice thaw/defrost). It's been great to be able to get out of the shower and push a button to start the truck in the morning!

We haven't had any really cold weather in VA yet this year - but I'm ready!
