This is getting very annoying. It will turn over and its getting fuel (i can smell it) but it wont start. It can happen at anytime hot or cold or it even shuts off sometimes when going down the road! Brought to a shop and they replaced a fuel evap sensor, didnt help. This problem is so ramdom it's a gamble every time i turn the key. I replace the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, didn't help. What's this TFI module people are talking about? Could this be the problem? What is it? Where is it located? and what does TFI stand for?
The TFI module is an ignition control module. It is a flat rectanglar unit mounted right on the outside of your distributor. They are known to fail. I had two go out on my 86 F150 and so I'm switching over to duraspark II ignition from an older model.
Have you checked for spark? Pulled codes? TFI is certainly one possible cause of the problem. When my TFI module acts up, I get ignition codes in the computer.
hey there was an ignition thing, sorry dont know the exact name of it, on my steering column that gave me fits....cause it was just a little bit loose same problem yours was having, i bought a new one im thinkin its like an ignition module, or some thing like that, to replace it with, but when i tore apart my steering column, it was riveted into place. so, instead of drilling out the rivets and changin the part, i tightened it up with a zip tie.... works wonders.... gimme a little while, and i will see if i can get some pics up.....
