Front tank won't take fuel.

See my sig, my front tank won't take fuel at the gas station. Everything worked fine until Monday, I went to fuel up on the way to work - the rear tank was fine but my front tank will not take fuel - even slow it burps immediately. I tried again today and it still won't....This is wierd to happen all of the sudden. The front tank is one year old, the rear tank is a bout 1.5 months old. Like I say, everything was working perfect until this past Monday morning.

Anything common for this? I'm going to pull the hose off the tank after supper and see what I find.

To me it sounds like it is full. My pump has been performing poorly for the last few months on the front tank ... it quit last week and when I put gas in it, the gauge stayed on empty. I don't know if there is a crossflow problem on the 96 like we have in the 90-92 ... but you may have that problem. I will be replacing my pump tomorrow.

It's not full - I track my fuel mileage and there was no change from the norm.

Sounds like the vent tube or the filler tube is kinked. I've also heard of the vent tubes being plugged with dirt and stuff.

I have a 89 with dual tank they both are slow to fill. It has always been that way and I do not know why. Had the filler neck off both tanks, checked the vent tubes they are not crushed nor are they blocked. Must be one of those poor design features that Ford hasn"t corrected.

I just finised R&R 'ing the filler neck....Didn't see anything wrong and no blockages. I also put air through the EVAP line from the tanks - not plugged. I think what happened was the inner plastic tube was not pouring into the tank - I think it was fetched up on the tank neck and was not able to pour directly into the tank. I can't see anything else wrong so I'm heading to the gas station to see how I fair out....Will keep ya posted.

FIY - problem solved. I guess the filler tube was a little kinked or something - takes fuel as fast as you can give it now.

I think the previous wrencher cut the hose a little and then didn't get it in the neck on the tank. I made sure it went in and now it works great.

I have a situation similar to this but i figured out the porblem and now can not fix it. my inner tube has come off the top of the fuel neck by the door on the inside and i cannot figure a way to get the inner tube back on because it is up in too far. a factory retainer ring fell out with the tube, like it was crimped from the factory. any ideas? or do i have to resort to buying a new neck assembly?

I don't know if anyone can use this info but, when I took my rear tank out and tried to run the truck on the front tank. The fuel would return to the rear tank. I thought this was odd because I beleived that whatever tank you are using should have the fuel return to it only.

No i couldn't get a hose clamp on it, i could not even get the hose started, the smaller hose fitting was way inside the larger hose fitting, (both metal at top). So i resorted to going to the junk yard and getting one that was still attached from factory. Next time though the diesel guys had alot of good ideas that they have in order to use the big pumps.
