hello, I have 02 psd which I am very happy with and pull a travel trailer. I was able to pull this trailer up hill at 65 until a couple days ago. Now it wont pull it up the same hill over 50-55 M.P.H. The truck starts and runs great hot or cold. I changed the fuel filter and it was pretty dirty. I just had my wife this morning rev it up this morning while I stood near the exhaust. It appears to missing on one cylinder. Could this be an injector? or something simpler? Any information would be greatly appreciated
If it sounds that like it is missing it could be a bad injector and you will probably be able to find out using a cylinder contribution test from anyone with the right equiptment. I could be a leaking in the hoses or exhaust because you will be dumping the same amount of fuel but not using it right if this condition exist. all 6 hoses should be tight and clamps should be centered. any oil or grease at the hoses is where a leak once was but may be sealed partically but the acculimanation of oil it self. Under the truck ( hard to see) but look for soot on your down pipes toward the top of the turbo and there will be a Y collector. That is where mine was leaking and I had the same symptoms as U minus the missing but It was ruff and not much power under 2000 RPMs
Don't be fooled by the normal Powerstroke exhaust flutter. To the uninitiated it can sound very much like an engine miss.
If you have a cylinder truly cutting out the engine will rock, just like when you pull a spark plug cable on a gas engine.
