I got the Predator. I plan to familiarize myself with the datalog functions over the next few days of driving back/forth to work. Then I'll let it sit for a few days and crank it up cold and run the tests and pull the cold temp data.

Good news though. Today was the first day driving it on the highway after changing the UVC's. It seems somewhat smoother at the higher RPM's. So maybe some of the little problems are fixed.

I had to plug it in last night so it would start up and not run rough this morning. It cranked right up with no problems.

Yesterday, I cranked it when cold and it ran rough as usual. I gave it some throttle and brought the RPM's up to 1000rpm. After a few seconds the rpm's raised up on it's own. I then brought it down to 1000 again. This happened a few times. It was as if the engine was slowly coming alive....... Strange, I know.

I'll find something out with this Predator I hope. If this don't do it it goes to the shop......

What about the ICP sensor? Someone suggested that it may be faulty as well.....
I havn't read all the post and don't know if your problem has been solved. Before I would do anything I would Change the OIL and Filter Make sure the Oil is CI-4 Rated. Mine was doing something like yours and I spent Thousands of Dollars and all it needed was an oil change!!

My 01 has 250,000 miles on it now, I have to change the Oil and filter every 5,000 miles or it comes back!!

How about that John?
MobeyDick has a very good idea, I very highly recommend trying that just to eliminate all doubt. Worn out oil will do all kinds of strange things to the PSD.

Guys,

I'll try an oil change again this weekend and see what happens. I can try andpull some codes at lunch today.

Will the PCM store important codes and not trip the SES light? I'm asking because my SESl ight never comes on when any of this is happening. I know there are soft and hrd codes that are set. Will soft codes cause problems, yet not light the SES light?

Pulled the codes this evening. Here they are.

P0602
P0605
P1211
P1690

The truck does have a BD Diesel 60hp chip in it so that might trip some of these?

Let me know what these codes mean.

The truck is not plugged in right now. Hopefully it'll get cold overnight and it'll chug in the AM. I can record everything then and compare to what I recorded on the way home.
Thanks

602 not sure but here is something i found on it from Superchips
The Superchips tuning again set off the P0602 DTC, causing periodic power reductions and slower-than-stock performance.

DTC P0605 exists only when there has been an internal failure of the powertrain control module (PCM).
Rerun Scan Tool Diagnostic Test.

This is not the tipical 603 KAM error we see on chipped trucks this is a ROM error but could still be tied to the chip. Need to take the chip out and see if the code returns.

1211 is the ICP code common with a chip
1690 is the waistgate

The 0605 could be from unplugging the PCM to remove the chip. Today was the first time I've been able to clear codes.

What would cause the 1690 to trip? I had the wastegate unplugged some time ago. Would this have caused it?

DTC P1690 indicates that the PCM has detected a failure on the WGC circuit.
Possible causes:
short to ground
open in harness
damaged connection
damaged WGC solenoid
damaged PCM
blown fuse

Yea.
If the 605 doesnt come back dont worry about it.

Kwik,

Do you know exactly which parameters I should be monitoring with the Predator.

Most of them look greek to me. Can the Predator do a cylinder contribution test?

Truck cranked up fine this AM. It was unplugged overnight but it only got down into the low 60's.... Needs to be about 20* colder before I have any problems.

I did notice the manifold absolute pressure reading looked over-ranged this AM. It was reading something like 6,xxx kpa.It was reading this at idle. It was fluctuating between this reading and a 0 reading yesterday when it was hot and idleing.

Well 6,000kpa = around 870psi so if that were true your engine would be in pieces.

at idle the MAP should read right around atmospheric pressure ~14.7psi that close to the coast or 100Kpa
