rear brake help

96 f150,i am putting new shoes, drums on my truck.Got the shoes on,but when i put the drum on,it is a very tight fit.The parking brake seems to be too tight, but my manual says there is no adjustment on the cables. Is there anyway to loosen them up without replaceing the cables? They are not seized.

First make sure you have everything asembled correctly. If it is it'll look like this..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/9-For...49689112QQrdZ1

You can see the auto adjuster at the bottom-center of the assembly, this should be all the way in. There is a linkage on the drivers side just ahead of the axle where the 2 rear park brake cables meet. The longer cable that goes to the pass side has an adjusting nut that will affect the overall park brake preload... it could be too tight for the new pads.

i`m thinking it must be the e brake cables, they are the original, maybe seized enough to not let the brake off completely, the passenger side is getting hot when i drive

Yes there is and it is definitely not the cables. There is a starwheel at the very bottom between the shoes, and it has to be screwed all the way in before you put the drums on. After the drums are on, you manually adjust them out until the shoes contact the drum all the way around.

Ok, I see what you're saying, but adjusting the cables isn't going to help in this case. If the starwheel is all the way in and the drum still won't go on, then it's either not together right (unlikely) or you got some cheap or defective parts.
