'06 whistling noise

Question, my '06 2.3 5spd makes a horrible whistling noise at 55 mph in 4th. Anyone else have problems? This is my 4th Ranger so far and have never had any problems like this what so ever. It almost sounds like, and I thought it was at first radio noise but it isn't. Thanx!

I have a ranger like yours. It does not make a whistling noise. It does have problems, currently in the shop again. Something wrong with clutch on these pickups, I had a new slave cylinder put in mid-december, new pressure plate end of december, and back in for another pressure plate now. Also, dash has annoying rattle like something is loose, the dealer tried to fix at airbag 3 times now. I am not abusing this truck. Less than 6000 miles. Any more problems I'm getting the lemon law on my side.

You can attempt to solve this yourself or use the factory warranty. At any rate, have you made any effort to better narrow down the source of the wind noise? Does it do it only when there is a crosswind? How about fan speed when the noise is occuring? More detailed info is needed here.

It may just be an air flow sound coming from somewhere on the vehicle at that speed. Are there any other indications that there may be other problems associated with this sound?

Have someone drive & you use a length of hose, one end to your ear, the other as a listening probe & see if you can locate the noise.

I have had a whistling (air leak) around passenger side door on my 03. The door has been adjusted numerous times and finally the weatherstrip around window was replaced. It seems quiet at the moment. It was most prevalent in the winter and got louder with a higher fan setting. If it happens again will replace the weatherstrip that goes around door opening as that is the last resort .
