New Windshield Needed ... Prices, Advice, Precautions?
I think I'm going to be in need of a new windshield due to a crack. I'm going to call the glass companies tomorrow for some quotes, but I would like to have some idea of what to expect. Also, I'd really like to get one with the "Super Duty" across the top, but don't know if they're available.
Any advice or precautions would be appreciated. My deductable is pretty high on my truck, so this will come out of my pocket and I want to be sure I'm getting this done right. Thanks all.

Just had mine replaced last week due to a rock that spidered my windshield. I have a zero deductable on windshields, but I got an invoice anyway for my records. The windshield was not the one with Super Duty on the top . My part number was DW1505CBY (or DW1505GBY) and the cost was $333.50 for windshield and labor.
I also had my wifes Sport Trac done at the same time. Bad year for windshields I guess.

Betcha the crack is driver side just above the defrost vents.
Had mine done last month for about 175. had one previously for 250. pretty much the same window, but mostly the price diff was where they did the work. the expensive one was done at my job site while I stood there watching. Get a Gaurantee so the stupid thing won't leak, then next week find a car wash and check for sure yourself. Get some place that has a front door you can walk into instead of just calling them to show up in a van or truck.
If you are where it is cold, you may want it done inside in climate controlled, so the glue sets properly.
No, it didn't say anything on the blue stuff. I figure if you can't tell I am drivin a stretch PSD, then you are too pathetic to talk too.

$300 is better than I was expecting. I was thinking around $400+ for one.
After some searching on FTE and the net, I'm finding that the only windshield that has the "Super Duty" on it is made by Carlite. But, they only list it as available for the 2003 and later trucks. I'm assuming (a dangerous thing to do sometimes) that the windshields for the newer SD trucks will fit.
Thanks for the advice about a shop. It is getting cold here, and the shop that carries Carlite here is Binswanger Glass. I'm pretty sure they have a place to do the work inside.

Glad the question has come up as I also am in need of a new windshield. No cracks, just plenty of sandblast from winter roads. Insurance Co. gave me the go-ahead 3 months ago, its' just been too crazy around here to get 'er done!
$0 deduct on glass so I was thinking about OEM glass, but does anyone have any opinions if OEM is better/worse than aftermarket?

My current windshield also has a little wavy spot right in the driver's sightline. I would like a new one to not have that. From what I can find, Carlite (the one with the Super Duty logo) is the OEM glass. Just and FYI. I'm curious to know how glass quality compares to aftermarket too though.

99 f250 I use it for work. 130k on my 5th windshield. My insurance 0 deduct. on glass. All replaced by Safelite. They have a deal with my insurance co. I have had 2 after market windshields and 2 carlite windshields. It seems to me that the aftermarket windshields will crack easier with smaller rocks and spread the crack faster after being hit. Both fit OK. I now ask for OEM windshields and it is OK with my Insurance co. I also get a copy of the receipt and the last one was 233. installed.

With all of my driving to and from Alaska I have been through 4 windshields, paying from $184.00 to $232.00. Every installation has been a quality job. Believe it or not the cheapest was done in New Orleans where they came to me. The most expensive was done in a little town in Kentucky where I had it done inside their shop. Got a price in Buffalo once for $174.00 but did not bother cuz I was leaving for the frozen north and figured why bother.
